About this clue type

From the preamble to Azed No. 2116

Clues are of two types. Acrosses are of Printer’s Devilry type. Each down clue, except one, has been distorted by the superfluous addition at any point (i.e. beginning or ending at a word break or within a word in the clue) of a consecutive jumble of the letters of one of the across answers. Solvers will need to remove the intrusive jumbles before they can solve the clues, which make a modicum of sense when the jumbles are removed. Closing up the gap may require some manipulation of the clue’s punctuation, but there is no further tinkering with word-division elsewhere in the clue. Jumbles in the across clues have been inserted in down clue order.

Solvers should include with their entry a clue in the style of the other down clues, with the jumble of the appropriate across answer included. Preference will be given to clues which make sense in both their original and their expanded forms.
