Comments on the clue

1.	'onslaught' would be a nice replacement for the somewhat out of place 'onlookers'
2.	I don't think "inwards" works as a containment indicator.
3.	wordplay by definition doesn't work
4.	don't like movement (a noun) as an anagram indicator
5.	Starts nicely but a weak ending
