Could have easily been 'in variety' and perhaps also improved the surface? | | 4. | I don't think you could plausibly describe life as 'plain-Jane' | | 5. | 'variation' is a noun so doesn't work logically. Needs to be 'in variation' to make sense (as a clue). |
