July Competition Information
JUSQU'AUBOUTISTE

Results Information   See results

With a clue word like this it was always going to be a battle of the anagrams. As it happened we had the most convincing winner in a long while. Very well done Richard – good to see you back in the fray with a superb clue that was almost universally praised.

Second spot went to John A. who just headed the rest of the pack to achieve his second podium finish of the year.

You cannot keep a good man down and the form "horse" still managed a third place – well done Mike.

Two stalwarts completed the placings, so congratulations to John T. and David for maintaining their consistency.

A very big thankyou to everyone for their efforts on what was a very challenging clue word – I am sure David Dare-Plumpton is up there somewhere looking down on us with a big smile upon his face!

Voting is open until Midnight UK time on Thursday 16th August.

Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…

Entry Information

IN MEMORIAM DAVID DARE-PLUMPTON
I was very saddened to hear of David’s passing at the end of last month. David ran the CCCWC up to 2002. Back in those days it was a lot of hard work; collating lists of clues, emailing them out, making corrections, chasing the votes, totting up the points, etc – a far cry from the superb website John Tozer has developed for us now!
He was not afraid to set us a stiff challenge every so often especially with some of the phrases chosen.
When I took over in 2003 he kindly passed on the word he was going to set for that month. I decided to choose another word to mark the end of his tenure, and keep his choice back. I never returned to that word because it was one of his stiffer challenges – indeed a brute!
I am hoping it will be seen as a small but fitting tribute to David if we now do undertake that challenge!
So your task for this month is a STANDARD CRYPTIC clue to JUSQU'AUBOUTISTE (15) by the closing date of MIDNIGHT BST TUESDAY 31st JULY.
Remember that whilst you are composing (and pondering) your clue effort, the entry interface allows you to "Save but don't submit". But even if you "Submit this clue" you are still able to amend – or even retract – your entry right up until the end.
DON'T FORGET TO CLICK THE "SUBMIT THIS CLUE" BUTTON BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE!
Our primary reference is The Chambers Dictionary 12th Edition (2011), but you may, if you wish, use another dictionary or source, BUT PLEASE STATE SO IN YOUR CLUE'S EXPLANATION
