So the popularity of the new voting system was not a flash in the pan! It is fantastic to see that the number of voters this time round has actually risen to 53 – thanks to all of you!
 
A runaway (or should that be flyaway!) winner this month, and overall a pretty good standard, so congratulations to all that have made the lists.

Voting Information

The new interface will for the most part guide you through the voting process, but to remind you:
 
Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue.
 
- and of course you should NOT VOTE for your own clue!
 
COMMENTS:
 
The facility has been maintained for you to make COMMENTS if you so wish, but please bear in mind that any (adverse) COMMENTS you may care to make should be constructive. We are fortunate to have competitors with various levels of clue writing experience and those still learning the ropes would appreciate appropriate advice when they might stray from what you may regard as acceptable cluemanship! And even the best of us can err at times!

Entry Information

Your task for the second month of our new, improved Clue Writing Competition is a STANDARD CRYPTIC clue to SWATS (5) by the closing date of MIDNIGHT GMT TUESDAY 30th SEPTEMBER.
 
Ultimately, you may as always submit only one clue, but with our new system you may save, change, delete, submit and resubmit to your heart's content before deciding on your final clue within the given time period.
 
As is usual, we regard The Chambers Dictionary (2003 edition) as our primary reference, but you may, if you wish, use another dictionary or source, BUT PLEASE STATE SO IN YOUR CLUE'S EXPLANATION. Remember there is a prize for our winner of a copy of Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary kindly provided by Collins!
