After last month's nail-biter, a pretty convincing winner this time round! Some ingenious wordplay and a very convincing surface result in Tom leading the field for LION-HEART – maintaining his recent run of excellent form – well done Tom!
 
A tie for second place next – firstly another consistent performer of late – moving up one from his 3rd place in August – with an excellent & lit. – congratulations to Richard.
 
Also tied for second place – yet another consistent performer – 4th podium finish of this year for Dave P. with that clever anagram using the mother-in-law's stuffing! Great stuff!
 
Fourth place goes to someone else who spotted this anagram, and also achieved his 4th podium of the year! So well done Steve R. – you are certainly establishing yourself very swiftly amongst the regulars!
 
Well we couldn't keep him out! Congrats go to Mike for just squezzing into the top 5 yet again! Can he keep it up!

Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…
 
…and of course you may NOT VOTE for your own clue!

Are you brave enough to take on this month's challenge? For SEPTEMBER we would like a STANDARD CRYPTIC clue to LION-HEART(4-5) by the closing date of MIDNIGHT BST SATURDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER.

Remember that whilst you are composing (and pondering) your clue effort, the entry interface allows you to "Save but don't submit". But even if you "Submit this clue" you are still able to amend – or even retract – your entry right up until the end.
