The Crossword Centre Clue-Writing Competition

March Competition Information
EASTER (Misprints)

Results Information   See results

It would seem that most competitors enjoyed this slight variation on the misprints theme and it certainly threw up some interesting and clever clues.

A familiar name re-emerged at the top though. So our Annual Champ for the past two years notches his first win of 2013 – well done Mike – and as we know, a bit of not-too-risque smut always goes down well with the voters!

John grabs his second 2nd place this year – achieving an &lit. in this type is always commendable, so tough luck on just missing out again.

Dave returns to his recent good form by taking 3rd spot with the slightly more felicitously worded Listener clue.

Hearty congratulations to Kiran, a staunch supporter of this competition for many years without much success, so great to see a 4th place podium finish for you.

Final plaudits go to Peter for his 5th spot with the other "Listener" clue.

Thanks and well done to everyone for an entertaining competition!

Voting Information

Voting is open until Midnight UK time on Monday 19th April.

Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…

…and of course you may NOT VOTE for your own clue!

COMMENTS:

Your comments in general and on individual clues, however much or little you write, are always most welcome! Please remember that if any particular clue or clues do not find favour with you, it is more helpful to offer constructive criticism – many of our members are keen to learn and hone their clue writing skills through our competition – feedback may be useful for their future efforts!

Entry Information

Your challenge for this month is an EASTER misprint.

A MISPRINT clue is required where the definition indicates a one letter misprint of EASTER (e.g. MASTER, WASTER, EASIER, etc.), but the wordplay leads to EASTER.

By way of a simple example, here is an idea of what is required:

A tree's chopped quicker

[Explanation: Def. "quicker" = FASTER; wordplay, anagram of "A TREE'S" = EASTER]

Remember that whilst you are composing (and pondering) your clue effort, the entry interface allows you to "Save but don't submit". But even if you "Submit this clue" you are still able to amend – or even retract – your entry right up until the end.

BUT DON'T FORGET TO CLICK THE "SUBMIT THIS CLUE" BUTTON BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE!

Our primary reference is The Chambers Dictionary 12th Edition (2011), but you may, if you wish, use another dictionary or source, BUT PLEASE STATE SO IN YOUR CLUE'S EXPLANATION.
