An intriguing contest. I usually wonder (worry!) whether these special contests will arouse the ususal levels of interest, but I should have no fear – you always rise to the challenge – and what a wonderful selection of GMT words were chosen!

There was a close fight between 1st and 2nd this month, and then a little way back another close fight for 3rd-5th!

Congratulations to last year's champion on regaining form with some neat wordplay – well done Mike! Very pleased to see a certain Mr Francis pop up in that close 2nd spot – a renowned expert from another field of word gaming – welcome Darryl, and commiserations for just missing out with the most succinct clue.

John McCabe nicked 3rd spot from Rob, and JT completed the podium of 5 different target words!

Well done to all – thanks for the entertainment!

Entry Information

During March in the UK we change over from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to British Summer Time (BST), with our clocks being put forward an hour to give us more dalight in the evenings.

So this month's challenge is in honour of GMT. Your task is to clue a word that follows a "GMT" template, i.e. any word of any length (NOT a multi-word phrase) that begins with G and also contains M and T in that order (but not necessarily consecutively).

For instance, GARMENT, GEMSTONE, GRANDMOTHER would all fit the bill, and there are many others.

Your clue must define the word in full, but the subsidiary indication (wordplay) must lead to the remainder of your chosen word EXCLUDING the GMT.

By way of example, a crude effort for GAMUT could be:

Gold range (5)

The definition being "range" and "gold" indicating "au", i.e. GAMUT with the GMT removed.

For once it would be helpful if you included the enumeration in your clue as I have done above, and please remember to begin the EXPLANATION of your clue by listing the "GMT" word your are cluing.

The closing date for entries is Midnught BST(!)Sunday 25 March.

Good Luck!
