Sometimes writing a good clue is not enough – you may also need to possess the powers of foresight! In the early stages of voting this competition was as close as a hung parliament, but then with the election result and the ensuing shenanigans, Margaret's clue gradually became more and more apposite. But then, as one commenter observed, it was a very good clue in its own right anyway – the coalition was the icing on the cake!

So congratulations to Margaret who in the end did not need to negotiate with any of the other clue writers in order to achieve a majority. There was very little to choose between Tim and Michael in 2nd and 3rd, who with their similiar idea may well have tried to form a well-hung parliament. James' clue also proved a popular choice just back in 4th, and John Tozer completed the podium with his wonderfully concise clue. Well done to all for your efforts.

Voting Information

Voting is open until Midnight BST Monday 17th May.

Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…

…and of course you should NOT VOTE for your own clue!

COMMENTS:

Your comments in general and on individual clues, however much or little you write, are always most welcome! Please remember that if any particular clue or clues do not find favour with you, it is more helpful to offer constructive criticism – many of our members are keen to learn and hone their clue writing skills through our competition – feedback may be useful for their future efforts!
