Christmas Special Competition Information
A Christmas Boxed Set (Anagram)

Results Information   See results

I expected some inventive anagrams for this challenge – what I was not expecting? – anagrams themed to the festive season. But there were some and those were the ones favoured by the judges!

So hearty congratulations to John Tozer who romped to victory with his suitably festive triplet! That's John's second win of the year and as we shall see shortly, stood him in good stead in the overall standings.

Charlie Oakley in second – and a second podium of the year…
Good to see Luciano back on the podium after an unduly long absence – 3rd place with the most concise effort…
Another return to the top 5 after a long absence – Paul Coulter in 4th spot…
Finally, Nathan Townsend bags a 3rd podium of the year in 5th spot…

Thanks to all for the festive frolics!

2021 ANNUAL COMPETITION RESULT

John Tozer's Christmas success means he sneaks up on the rail to snatch victory in the last few strides! Well done John on regaining the crown!

Very hard luck and commiserations to Tom Borland – leading right till the end only to lose out by a single point…but a great effort!

Richard Saunders and Simon Griew tied for third place, just a half point behind – again, well done sirs, and better luck next year!

Finally, in fifth place was Steve Hicks – a mere point further back.

Our closest competition yet for the overall standings, so good luck to all for 2022!

Voting Information

Voting is open until Midnight UK time on Thursday 20th January.

Firstly, all anagrams have been checked for accuracy – although one of them is a little creative in its formation and two use the numeral 1 for the letter I – I leave it to you the judges to decide…so please vote in confidence!

Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…

…and of course you may NOT VOTE for your own clue!

COMMENTS:

Your comments in general and on individual clues, however much or little you write, are always most welcome! Please remember that if any particular clue or clues do not find favour with you, it is more helpful to offer constructive criticism – many of our members are keen to learn and hone their clue writing skills through our competition – feedback may be useful for their future efforts!

Entry Information

A CHRISTMAS BOXED SET

Your festive challenge to take you through the Christmas season is an anagram challenge: the closing date is MIDNIGHT GMT FRIDAY 31st DECEMBER.

I have been a fan for a while of a singer-songwriter called IMOGEN HEAP. Her debut album, back in the late 90s, was titled "I MEGAPHONE", which rather neatly for crossword fans is an anagram of her name.

So, for my Christmas present this year I would like you to send me a boxed set of three albums, from different artists, whose titles are anagrams of the artist.

You have free rein to choose the three artists and your anagrams can be seasonal, apposite to the artist, funny, surreal, etc., or any mixture.

I would suggest that your "clue" should list the three album titles – labelled 1.,2.,3. and in the COMMENTS list your three artists.

TO POINT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION I HAVE CREATED A RATHER POOR EXAMPLE:

CLUE…1.To Silent Leghorns 2.Dinky Flop 3.Then You Won This

COMMENTS…The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston

YOU HAVE PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM…HAVE FUN!
