Hearty congratulations to Vinit, who after many years of diligent effort in our clue writing competition has secured his first win! A simple, neat and effective clue – well done indeed!
 
Tom was just squeezed out into second spot by a mere point and a half to maintain his consistent run – also with a neat hidden clue.
 
Mike Adams' debut in our competition is marked with an immediate top 5 finish! Could be a name to watch out for from now on – his clue made me chuckle.
 
Well we can't keep him off his reserved spot on the podium! Steve Randall scores yet again with a clue that I imagine would be tricky to solve if it was in a puzzle, but very clever construction!
 
One debutant(e) in the top 5 is rare, but two is even rarer! Congratulations to Jacob who has also scored with his first attempt in our competition! Double definition clues don't often rate highly but I thought this one worked really well.
 
Thanks to all – OPEN is now closed, but this month's ELDERS competition is still open – even to youngsters!

Voting Information

Voting is open until Midnight UK time on Monday 18th May.
 
Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…
 
…and of course you may NOT VOTE for your own clue!

Please remember that if any particular clue or clues do not find favour with you, it is more helpful to offer constructive criticism – many of our members are keen to learn and hone their clue writing skills through our competition – feedback may be useful for their future efforts!

Entry Information

Your challenge for April is a STANDARD CRYPTIC clue to OPEN (4) by the closing date of MIDNIGHT BST THURSDAY 30th APRIL.

Remember that whilst you are composing (and pondering) your clue effort, the entry interface allows you to "Save but don't submit". But even if you "Submit this clue" you are still able to amend – or even retract – your entry right up until the end.

BUT DON'T FORGET TO CLICK THE "SUBMIT THIS CLUE" BUTTON BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE!
