The Crossword Centre Clue-Writing Competition

June Competition Information

It seems cruel that there should emerge a winner from two clues that are so similar but "wrecked" was JUST preferred to "destroyed"! So hearty congrats to Andy Smith who follows up his 3rd place last month with the victory and deepest commiserations to Satyen who just misses out in 2nd. A neat subtraction anagram and surprising that two entrants managed to find it.
A little way back in third was Vinit – his first podium for a few years, so well done – a simple enough anagram but a very convincing surface indeed!
Vinit pipped two of our stalwarts by a 1/2 point, who tied for 4th place. Tom achieves his 3rd podium finish of the year with a far from glowing advert for the grand old institution of marriage! John Tozer constructed a very neat reversed hidden &lit. for his 2nd podium of the year.
As always, well done to all for another fine competition, apologies for the delay in the results as I have been in foreign climes, but onwards now to VINDALOO!

Voting Information

Voting is open until Midnight UK time on Wednesday 25th July.
Please award FIVE points maximum to the clue you judge best: FOUR points for second, THREE for third, TWO for fourth, down to ONE point for fifth; but otherwise you may distribute your votes as you see fit including ½ marks for split voting – as long as you award no more than 15 points IN TOTAL and no more than 5 points to any one clue…
…and of course you may NOT VOTE for your own clue!
Your comments in general and on individual clues, however much or little you write, are always most welcome! Please remember that if any particular clue or clues do not find favour with you, it is more helpful to offer constructive criticism – many of our members are keen to learn and hone their clue writing skills through our competition – feedback may be useful for their future efforts!
