About this clue type
From the preamble to Azed No. 1069
With the exception of the nine unclued lights, which must be deduced, but to which 26 Down and 1 Across provide a clue of sorts, all answers have new headpieces. That is, their initial letters have been replaced others, producing non-words. In each clue the definition part refers to the word in its correct form, while the subsidiary part refers to the form that is to appear in the diagram. A consecutive jumble of the letters of the correct form is also included in each clue.
Competitors should submit with their solutions a clue like all the others to 26 Across, assuming any new ‘headpiece’ they wish. Please specify clearly in your entry which new initial you have chosen.
